Mitchell's for the win! Got an unexpected hour to do a very short date night/evening out and drove over to Mitchell's to grab some espresso toffee couch (loved it!) And rum and raisin. There wasn't a huge rush but they were still busy and yet we were patiently helped, not rushed and allowed to make our choices. It was such a nice evening. Thank you Mitchell's.

This ice cream shop is a must in SF! It has a lot of yummy tropical flavors that you can't find in those reg shops! Service is always fast and easy. The ambiance is very familyish. Give you that childhood ice cream stop feeling. My favorite is always Ube (i don't know why but thus place has the best Ube flavor ) and macapuno! Don't forget to grab a prepackaged ice cream! It's so cheap here !

Rocky road, coffee ice cream, mexi chocolate. But the highlight isn't the ice cream, it's the server. Jalen. Jalen served us and he did an amazing job making us feel welcome and allowing us to take our time. He was exceptionally patient too!

A SF institution -- you have to come here if visiting, and don't be daunted by the line. Came here on a Sunday around 8:30 PM and we grabbed ticket 9 and they were calling out 64, so we had to wait a while. A lot of parties don't show up though when their number is called, so the wait isn't as long as you might think. We waited about 20 minutes. There's a couple of benches outside the windows and benches near the small parking lot they have in the back, but you're probably better off finding street parking. When it was finally our turn, the employee was super kind and friendly, letting us try as many flavors as we wanted! My friend I came with had a great conversation with him about their favorite flavors, it really embodied the neighborhood spot ambiance. Every flavor I tried was excellent and creamy while staying true to the flavor and not being overly sweet -- it was hard to decide! I ended up getting a Split Single of the Hojicha and Lucuma flavors. This was the best Hojicha-flavored dessert I've ever had. The tea flavor was so potent but not overpowering. The Lucuma was so unique as well; I had never heard of it before, but its beautiful golden color called put to me and it tasted as good as it looked. They actually worked great together! Absolutely willing to wait in this line again for some more ice cream. I need to try every flavor!

WHY WE WENT HERE: - I received numerous recommendations and confirmation from SF natives that this is a SF monument - when working in SF, my brother and cousin (who both currently live in SF) and I decided to come here after dinner; my brother works down the street from here and had already tried it, telling us how good it was, so it was more incentive for us to go together as a family (on a sidenote, it's ironic how it's located on San Jose Avenue - the 3 of us grew up in San Jose so it just felt like another sign) THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located off San Jose Avenue and 29th St - if you're not walking here or coming off Muni, street parking only - 1 bench for outdoor seating, but even in the cold and chilly night this place had people spilling out from inside waiting outside - you actually take a ticket number and wait for your number to be called (like at the butcher) before you can even approach the counter to order - there's signage on the exterior of the establishment and the windows are clear so you can get a view of the menu and ice cream/sorbet flavors THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - very small ice cream shop; but very brightly lit; all the flavors are made in-house THE MENU: - ice cream: ice cream flavors, sorbet flavors - products: cups & cones, sundaes & splits, milkshakes, ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, sorbets, vegan ice cream, seasonal eggnog drink - take home: 1/2 gallon (4 pounds), quart (2 pounds), pint (1 pound), 1/2 pint (8 oz.) WHAT WE ORDERED: - scoops: ube ice cream, hojicha ice cream, kalamansi sorbet - 1/2 pint: hojicha ice cream + I forget the other flavor THE TASTE: - ice creams were superb! the kalamansi sorbet was so-so for me; I would stick with the ice cream CUSTOMER SERVICE: - despite the busyness, they don't rush you, which is greatly appreciated

Service: 10/10! (I couldn't wait to leave them a tip) Bananas Spilt: 10/10! (caramel praline, pistachio, and grasshopper pie with two marshmallows topping and caramel) We can't wait to come back. Caramel praline was our favorite. Next time I would like to try chocolate caramel crackle

Mitchells has been in the city forever, so I finally got a chance to stop by when I had dinner a couple blocks away. I was impressed by their huge range of flavors, especially the emphasis on Asian/Filipino flavors like buko, halo halo, etc! You're allowed to sample. There's no seating space really, so grab a number ticket and be willing to wait!

I always say this was started by the good Mitchell Brothers. If you're from the City you'll get the reference. And these brothers, Larry and Jack, created one of the happiest places in San Francisco. From strawberry to good old vanilla, spumoni to mango, the seasonal halo halo to the seasonal eggnog, hojicha to Thai tea, I have always found something to delight my taste buds here. And I love the new murals!
